St. Mary’s Secondary School received their Volunteering For All Award on 14 May, 2019.
A total of 542 students were surveyed to learn about their volunteer experiences and the diversity of the school. Students learned that 19% of their peers are from another country, and that Irish, Tagalog, Romanian, Spanish, French, Polish, Russian and Malayalam (to name a few) are the most common languages spoken by students after English.
Roughly 40% of students have volunteered in for a charity event, 18% volunteer in a local youth club, and 21% coach a local sports team.
Deputy Noel Rock presented the Award and told the students he felt energised after their presentation to get out and volunteer more himself.
